Music and Me
Hi! My name is Jessica. I am majoring in piano and guitar performance. I started playing piano when I was 9 years old and guitar when I was 13. Besides piano and classical guitar I also play electric guitar. I also enjoy going to metal concerts. I have seen over 100 different bands. This is my first year at converse. I started college at SCC to do my Gen ed classes and then I transferred to Converse. I have really enjoyed my time at Converse. Cats are my favorite animal. I have 3 cats, named Zamora, Phoenix, and Emeri.
I've been listening to Interloper's newest album "A Forgotten Loss". I found this band through my guitar teacher as he is friends with them. They are a 2 member band. They both play guitar and do vocals. The songs they write are very technical. I got to see them live a few years ago at Ground Zero. I recently bought their tab book for this album. They play on 7 string guitars and I recently bought one for myself with my Christmas money. One of my favorite songs off their newest album is "The Ones That Changed Me". I love to listen to the solo over and over. It's very melodic. Now that I have the tabs for it I can't wait to start leaning to play it!
2. A piece of music that means something to me:
When I was 14 years old I auditioned for The Governor's School summer camp. I chose to use Chopin's Piano Sonata in No.2, Op. 35 (The Funeral March) as one of my audition pieces. I worked really hard to learn this piece. I got into the summer camp. I was ecstatic! I had a great time and got to perform The Funeral March at the end camp. This piece will always have a special place in my heart. It taught me that as long as I out my mind to it I can achieve what I want. I haven't played this piece in awhile but when Dr. Graff played it at his faculty recital it made me want to return back to it.
3. Music that I don't connect with:
I have never enjoyed the genre of rap. I grew up around rap music because of my older brother. He would be playing it almost 24/7. I was never able to get into to it. I've tried different sub-genres of rap but could never find any that I liked. I don't enjoy the how it sounds artificial with the instruments. I also don't enjoy the vocals. I'm always open to giving different music a try. Maybe I just haven't found the right artist yet. If you any suggestions, I'll give them a listen.
4. Bonus songs:
One of all time favorite songs are the Pain Remains Trilogy by Lorna Shore. It is broken up into 3 songs. Lorna Shore has a lot of orchestral aspects to their music. I love the orchestra section the connects the 2nd part to the 3rd part. Pain Remains is a very emotional and dark trilogy. It is about loosing someone you love and not being to cope with that loss. Part II.
Part III.
Hello! I can totally relate about not being able to get into rap. Growing up I was never really around it and when my friends would play I never really enjoyed it. But ironically I like Tyler The Creator (Not all of his songs though), specifically See You Again and many from his new album!! :)
ReplyDeleteIt's very cool that you are going to learn "The Ones That Changed Me" I really liked this song, I always like the lyrics in Metal songs and this was no exception! Chopin always makes beautiful music, I think this is a piece that you could play again and perform at a student recital and it would sound great! I actually started liking rap recently, I used to dislike it because my brother really liked it (since we are siblings I obviously had to dislike everything he likes).
